Human Japanese App Reviews

Terrific!

Its a great program that really explains it understandably! Thanks so much! ~God bless! :]

Simple, marvelous… simply marvelous!

I wish Id had this fifteen years ago, when I first started struggling with Japanese. Thanks!

Great App

Since I started, it has been an amazing way of learning. Right now Im in the middle of the Hiragana chapter and a small complaint is that there isnt enough review… Flashcards and writing the symbols over and over again on notebook paper is -- sort of working I guess. It will probably be another week before I finish the chapter (because every time I learn a new five, I seem to forget some previous symbols :P). More examples would help. Otherwise, great overall!!!!!!! :D

Amazing... but one fault!

Learning Japanese was once thought to be an impossible task to me…Not any longer. My wife is Japanese and she has been hounding me to learn it for some time now. I have tried three different audio disk/mp3 type teaching aides, but they all just focus on memorization. This app actually teaches you the mechanics of the language. By the seond day, I was able to write and properly pronounce all the vowels, the K series, G series, S series, and the Z series. I start the T series today. It may seem weird to be able to write and spell a word before you know the meaning of it, but I enjoy this approach. I get to show my wife the progress I am making, and she is very impressed. This is after only my second session, but the app gets 4 stars. Why not five? It is because the built in Japanese dictionary/term search is EXTREMELLY limited. I feel like the only terms included in the dictionary are the ones used specifically in the teaching of the program. If this could be expanded to a full Japanese dictionary, than this would be a 5 star app all the way.

Believe What Youve Heard

Ever since I discovered my favorite TV series as a seven year old came from Japan Ive been on a quest to learn everything I could about the country, which includes the language. After spending over a year trying books, CDs, to other software, I can honestly say this program really is #1. No previous knowledge required. If your willing to put in the effort of copying some things down with a few notes, you can take the program anywhere and work anytime. I was able to comfortably set a pace for myself and even progressed after not using a computer for a week and a half! The cultural notes are nicely placed and there is a bit of light humor thrown in (I found the accent sample particularly funny). If I had to ask for one thing it might be for a dictionary expansion, but Im otherwise very happy. Best $9 ever spent!!!!

This is the best language app ever!!!

I have attempted multiple times to learn Spanish, but always give up by Chapter 3. After making a Japanese buddy on Instagram, I wanted to know what those symbols were all about. I bought this program and in 2 days I can read, write, and speak the entire Japanese alphabet and 35 words. Not only is it the best app for learning a new language, it is FUN!!! The way the developer broke up the sections is absolutely perfect.

Great App: Note on the Mac version

This app seems to be great! It makes learning fun and easy (sounds cliche, but it really does). The only drawback is that the Mac version doesnt support Lion features. It takes up a very small portion of the screen on my iMac and stretching the app window out only makes the grey backdrop bigger. Theres no fullscreen option. Having said that, their approach to learning is incredible and I highly recommend the app, Id have probably gone with the iPad version if I had a second chance.

good good good

Dont even think about it. If yuo want to learn Japanese get this app NOW! and i love picking up on words that I recognize from cartoons. Like Goku :D I wish it had more of a way to help me remember the symbols though. But I just take it one page at a time a day and they actually stay stuck in my head :)) Plus the text is written like there is actually a person talkign to you one on one as in its not to formal and hard to understand. Just straight and to the point with help ALL along the way. I swear I havent been confused or overwhelmed ONCE :0

Great Program- promotes confidence and ease in learning Japanese

I just bought this program a couple days ago and its so well written and well organized that I find myself flying through it. I became interested in learning Japanese after a business exchange in Japan. While in Japan many people tried to explain to me the difference between the 3 writing systems. No matter how they tried, I just didnt understand! But after reading just one chapter of this program, I am confident that I understand and am ready to challange myself to the characters. It doesnt read like a text book. Instead, its more like an encouraging tutor giving cultural background and examples that an Anglophone can easily understand. As an absolute beginner I am very happy with this program and feel as though Ive already got my moneys worth after only a few chapters!

Great basic Japanese program

I had the PC version on CD and I was very disapointed when I lost it. I havent found any other program that teaches the basics of Japanese as well as this one. I was hesitant about this app after reading other reviews that users were unable to zoom in; either this has been corrected, or the other users did not find a way to resize the window. In the main menu bar, select "Main Text", then select "small" (default), "Medium" or "Large".

addicting fun not a waste of money

i m a big fan of the japanese culture and i wanted to learn japanese and i thought to give this a try, boy was it worth my money this program is very rewarding and addicting and it has alot of information, defiantly worth your time, and money. My most favorite app to use.

One huge exception

This app is fantastic EXCEPT for the inability to turn off (or otherwise remove) romaji. No one looking to seriously learn Japanese should use romaji. This oversight is why I chose to remove two stars. Otherwise this is a very solid app that Id highly recommend.

ありがとう!

Ive tried other programs in an attempt to learn Nihongo (Japanese language) and only wish this were the one I had started with. Learning "phrases" can work as a quick fix if you find yourself in a foreign country on short notice, but to really communicate you need to learn the language. And that is where most language programs fail. Not so here. Try this app and youll be well on your way to reading, writing, and speaking Japanese!

Great App

So I have used over 20 Japanese Apps to teach myself vocabulary, kana, and Kanji, just trying them all out to see which ones are the best. The one thing that I found I couldnt learn well was grammar. I saw that this app got great reviews and thought that I would give it a try, and I was not dissapointed. This app does a great job of teaching the grammar and using a lot of example sentences to back it up. I was able to take all of my vocabulary knowledge and start constructing the language in a natural way. I definitely recommend this app to anyone wishing to learn Japanese.

A warm welcome to Japanese 101!

Konnichiwa! I just downloaded this app today and Im already feeling confident that my Japanese language skills will soar to new heights. Ive tried Rosetta Stone, various Japanese websites, and even read the book "Japanese For Dummies", but nothing comes close to this app. I am having a blast learning Japanese. I was so thrilled when I learned how to write in Japanese, and my parents were proud, too! Thank you for such a wonderful learning experience. Arigato gozaimasu. (That means "thank you very much" in Japanese.)

Greart Program, Great Upgrade

If you’re looking for a way to learn Japanese on your Mac with lots of interesting background information on the language and culture integrated in a meaningful and enjoyable way, look no further. And kudos to Brak for making the 3.0 upgrade free to 2.0 users - beyond classy!

Amazing but not great at support

It is amazing what a difference it makes to learn something from someone who knows how to present concepts in a way anyone can understand. It reaches the point of being deceiving :) as all of a sudden Japanese seems to be easy (and I mean that in the best way possible) - as I am actually learning and memorizing Hiragana. Very very good - if you have doubts, start with the “Lite” version as I did, and soon enough you will see it’s worth the upgrade ;) Good luck! ======================================================= update: losing a star for not responding to message requesting support

Absolutely Fantastic

I love this app. So much so, I purchased it not only on my Mac but for my phone as well. It’s perfect! The only thing it’s lacking is the ability to sync progress through different platforms.
